Following Cicelyís performance of the Saint-SaŽns Cello Concerto at Carnegie on December 28th, she played Elgarís masterpiece for cello and orchestra, Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op.85, with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Jaime Laredo. Though this exquisite work was composed in 1919 following WWI, it was not until the great Jacqueline du Pre performed and recorded it in the 60ís, that Elgarís cello concerto was properly recognized as a staple of the repertoire profoundly expressing Elgarís sorrow and despair following the war. Mr. Laredo conducted the VSO and Cicely in two performances: January 19th at 7:30pm in Burlington and January 20th at 3:00 pm in Rutland, VT. A review in the Rutland Herald stated, "Nineteen-year-old Cicely Parnas wowed the audience with a virtuosic and passionate performance of Edward Elgar's brooding Cello Concerto... Parnas is certainly an artist to watch - and enjoy." To read the entire review, click here.
