Cellist Cicely Parnas presented the world premier of
Bruce Craig Roter's "Sonatine for Unaccompanied Cello" at the Hudson
Opera House on Sunday, February 15, 2009. This piece was written in 1997 for
Nathaniel Rosen, but for various reasons had never been performed. Dr. Roter
describes the Sonatine as a "work ... in three movements and brings to the
forefront the cello's full potential for registral effects, timbral nuance,
virtuosic display and lyrical expression combining these elements in a work
that balances both flash and substance."
