The Parnas Duo was one of 10 first prize recipients
in the 2008 International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition,
taking the only first prize in the string ensemble division
for competitors ages 22 and under. The competition was held
in Boston, in April. With this win the Parnas Duo was invited
to enter the Grand Prize Competition held at Carnegie Hall on
May 26th. The Grand Prize was awarded to a wind ensemble,
though the Parnas Duo received the single honorable mention
given to a string ensemble in the 2008 competition. The Parnas
Duo is comprised of the Parnas sisters, violinist Madalyn 17 and
cellist Cicely 15, and it was this duo that earned the moniker
“Top String Ensemble” across all age divisions and string group combinations.
