The Delius Double Concerto is an amazing composition for violin and cello, all
the more so for being largely neglected in this country. The Double
Concerto was written in 1915 for the famous English sisters May and Beatrice
Harrison, violinist and cellist, respectively; Delius also wrote a cello
concerto for Beatrice and a violin concerto for May. One can imagine how
thrilled Madalyn and Cicely were to have the opportunity to perform this very
beautiful and richly complex work with the Catskill Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Charles Schneider on September 27, 2008. This performance
was so enthusiastically received, one wonders why the Delius Double is not
heard more often.
